    Finish Tall

PGA Pro Steve Sewell explains why a tall, balanced finish proves the swing fully uncoiled: weight left, belt buckle to the target, head high, and better coordination.

So many golf terms are synonymous with other terms. In addition, if you deal with basic tenets of the swing, one good move often forces other good moves to take place. For example, if you turn hard left toward your target, for right-handed golfers, you should finish with all the following included: all your weight on the left, facing the target, all weight off the right, standing tall, belt buckle to the target, weight on the outside of the left foot, and body totally upright with head high. All these things happen if you go to a high, balanced finish.

Finishing tall and in balance means you have totally uncoiled the tightened back muscles and helped retain the angle of attack that is crucial to big distance. Note that I mentioned, "in balance." Good balance helps you coordinate and, in reverse, good coordination helps you keep balance. All athletes perform better in balance. This is obvious, yet it is not, because so many of the golfers I instruct do not demonstrate good balance. Obviously they have balance or they would not be standing in front of me without a cane, but they have chosen to swing a club and forego the thought of good balance.
