DO WRISTS BREAK? YES AND NO!

A very common question and misunderstood part of the golf swing is what wrists should or should not do. They can move in two directions; flipping like a weak slap, and hinge as in a hammering motion. We do want the hinge which is the angle creating move we all hear about and strive for in good swings. The flip is a deal and swing breaker. It is weak, and a variable. Golfers do not want variables: we have enough variables with hole designs, lie types, wind, temperature and more!

If you recall my blog focusing on the three constant factors in a golf swing, one of them was our extension. Our arm extension cannot grow, only diminish. A golfer exhibiting and maintaining good extension of his arms will have one constant factor on his side. For righthanded golfers we usually focus on the left arm, but in reality it is both arms. Since the left is our lead arm, and the left shoulder represents the center of our circle or arc it is imperative that this side remain extended, (NOT LOCKED).
