For 65 years I have been playing golf tournaments; won my first at 13, won my last in the early 90s. I have held competitive course records, won in the US and several countries beyond, taken lessons from famous instructors and given lessons to famous players. I write all this because, with all this history, I've pretty much heard it all, and it's humorous. People come to me with their swing assessments and they are ludicrous, not based in fundamentals and typically so firmly entrenched in their psyches and golf swings, that change is difficult at best. I am so tired of hearing uninformed golfers assess golf swings! I've even listened to these, "self righteous, golf knowledgeable, self taught", golfers negatively explain why a famous, Hall of Fame, former Tour star had a bad swing! When I ask on what golf swing fundamentals they base their comments; they offer some half baked, ignorance based phrases they heard from another 100 shooter who never competed in an event, or if they did, played poorly!

I'm not against poor players, or those who struggle with the game, but if you are one of those folks, take a lesson and learn, or be content with your lack of knowledge and keep swinging!

I apologize for venting, and now wish to deal with the reality of today and building a good swing. I've taught blind golfers who excelled. I've instructed golfers missing a limb or multiple limbs, players following major strokes and on and on. Everyone can learn and grow. When you take a lesson from a qualified golf pro, listen and practice. It does not require an inordinately long amount of practice, but of course you must rehearse the new position, or move, so to progress from mechanical to athletic. I beg golfers who truly wish to improve, try a lesson and put it in play. When you come to the lesson, don't tell the instructor how good you are, or how you played 10 years ago or that you were a good baseball player so golf is difficult. We all played baseball, basketball, tennis, football, hockey, boxed etc. and guess what, it's better for the instructor since all athletic efforts require the ingredients of core and its coordination with the arms. I'm imploring all prospectively good golfers to seek golf education and get better!

Folks do not need to seek the "secret". There is no secret, qualified golf pros KNOW how the swing works! Watch the Tour players, male and female, they're terrific and they all implement the same "secrets"!

I truly hope this outrageous blog commentary has induced golfers who think they know, to seek out someone who DOES know and play better golf.

    Keep Practicing the Fundamentals

New lesson bookings are currently paused. Steve's article remains available for education, and ordinary simulator bay rentals do not include instruction.
