What is spine angle: the line formed between your tail bone and the top of your head. It is almost truly vertical because our correct stance is close to full height. To assume a correct stance, (spine angle), stand at full height, then push your butt out just a bit by tilting your hips back a touch. This is where the statement comes from; "prepare to sit on a barstool". Please note the phrase is not to SIT on the barstool, rather, PREPARE to sit on the stool. There is a big difference! In this stance there remains a space between our chin and chest. Do not lower your head thereby creating the turtle back look good players do not want.

During our backswing the spine angle remains intact. It also remains in place until we hit the ball. As we make contact our body starts to go up as our right heel, (for righhanded golfers), comes up fully. When a player loses spine angle, we mean the slightly tilted back bone straightens to fully erect too soon, just before impact. Staying in our tilted angle through impact is where, "keep your head down" probably was born! It isn't that the head is down, it just has not gone up yet.
