So many of my students do not get it: a good golf swing does not instantly appear. Golf pros work hard and long to hone skills, AFTER they have developed a pretty good swing. During lessons, it's very frustrating when lesson takers cannot wait 30 minutes or two lesson sessions before thinking they should see progress. What physical endeavor did we learn so quickly: baseball, football, hockey, playing a musical instrument?

A golfer must first develop the physical moves that are fundamental and basic to golf. AFTER learning to make these moves, we discuss coordination and balance which has to do with ball striking!

Many times a golfer tells me he or she has so much to think about during a swing. I don't understand because I NEVER give more than one conscious swing thought at a time or during a drill. A few moments later they tell me that they're trying to do something additional!!!! I don't get it, why are they self teaching and nullifying what they're paying me to do?! Of course they're now confused and bogged down, they just made it so by adding more thoughts and the thoughts are typically incorrect...................

The teacher has an obligation to teach but the student has an obligation to learn, not sort it out, not say it doesn't work, but try to learn something new. Isn't that the reason for a lesson???

Give the instructor space and have patience. During the round of golf patience is an extremely important factor too. During the swing patience is important. In other words, calm down and be patient!

    Keep Practicing the Fundamentals

New lesson bookings are currently paused. Steve's article remains available for education, and ordinary simulator bay rentals do not include instruction.
